User & Group Manager

The Users and Groups Manager is the tool used to store user information and control access to your web site. The role-based access approach lets you create groups with access rights and assign users to one or more groups. The access control settings let you decide which components and files a user can read, read/write or admin.

The user and groups tool includes the following features:
Role-based access control
a user can be given more than one role by associating them with more than one group. The user will automatically inherit the access rights granted to the groups they belong to. With virtual roles you can also set the access level for your entire site by choosing the access level given to the ‘all users’ or ‘public’ virtual roles.
Comprehensive and extensible user database - the users list is also a built-in information management database that lets you store standardised information about users in a single place. This is especially useful for managing client lists and mailing lists. You can also extend the data stored about a user or group by adding custom variables or keyword groups.
Component and File access control - the tool lets you navigate your files and components lists to assign the precise level of access you want.
What are users and groups?
Users and groups have access to your web site and the service designer at levels you
designate. A user is normally an individual with an username and password. A group is a container that can have one or more users as members. We use groups to set the access priviledges for a number of users at once.
HammerKit uses a role
Based principle to control access to the web site and the service designer. This means you can create groups that have particular access rights for different parts of your web site. We use the same tool to:
Store information
We have a standard user and group database that is used to store information about the users. Typically, you might be asking visitors to your web service to register and you can use the users and groups tool to store their information in a standard way
Set access rights
You can set access rights at an individual or group level. In all cases, the highest access right given to a user will prevail, meaning, for example, that if they are member of group with read access, but they have individually been given write access, then write access will be granted. You can set access for both components and files individually or by folder define group memberships
the access control tool
Allows you to add and remove users from groups. The system is completely flexible and allows you to create hierarchies of groups with names and priviledges that you specify review
The access log
You can inspect the access times of individual users to establish when they last logged in HammerKit allows you to set the access rights for components and files to limit who can see them.
There are four levels of access rights
that can be specified:
Deny - this means the file is not available

Read - this means the file can be seen, but not changed

Write - this means the file can be seen and changed, for example, the name or properties of the file can be altered by users with this priviledge. They cannot delete the file.

Administrator - this means the user has full control over the file, including the ability to delete it.
