System and software requirements

The HammerKit software is almost platform independent. The software only requires a few programs that have to be installed on the server. These programs are available for Linux, Unix, Solaris, MacOSX and Windows:

  1. HTTP server. The HTTP server software must be able to run PHP scripts. We recommend Apache HTTP server (open source and free of charge).
  2. PHP 4.3.0 or a newer version is required from HammerKit 3.4.0 and up.
PHP 5.2.1 or a newer version is required from HammerKit 3.5.0 and up.
  3. Database software. We recommend MySQL. When using MySQL the commercial MySQL licence is required. MySQL support is included free of charge. Other databases (for example Oracle or MSSQL) are supported for an extra fee.
  4. [OPTIONAL] SSH connection enabled to the server plus a username with password for logging in. Updates, upgrades, installations and configurations to HammerKit can be performed on-line through an SSH connection.

The hardware requirements are strongly application dependant. The more concurrent users the application has the more it requires from the hardware. For a server running at least ten or more frequently visited HammerKit sites a system memory of 1GB and a processor of at least 1GHz is recommended.
